Rose Marie (Schlim) Nelson, 96 died peacefully Thursday, May 11, 2017 at Belle Fourche Healthcare Community in Belle Fourche SD.

Rose was born June 6, 1920 to John and Anna (Burnstetter) Schlim in Howard, SD where she grew up on the family farm. Rose graduated from Burbank High School in 1939 as class valedictorian. She married Meredith "Shorty" Nelson on September 20, 1941 in Pipestone, MN. The couple moved to Berkeley, CA for five years before returning to South Dakota and farmed near Howard for four years. They then lived in Mitchell and Emery before moving to Blacktail, SD in 1957, where Rose was a homemaker and worked for the 4U Motel. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Lead and was a very active member of the churches women circle. Recovering from a sudden illness, Rose made her home at Edgewood Vista in Spearfish, SD. In February of this year she was moved to Belle Fourche Healthcare Community where she peacefully went to be with the Lord.

Those grateful for having shared her life include her children, Judy (Ray) Meverden of Spearfish, SD Jane (Gary) Fritz of Stanley, WI, Nancy (Dennis) Bridenstine of Deadwood, SD, Daniel (Ava) Nelson of Wright, WY , and Joyce (Philip) Yates of Custer, SD; along with 13 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren and 6 great-great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, three sisters and five brothers and one grandchild.

A Memorial service will be at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, May 16, 2017 at the First Presbyterian Church in Lead. Inurnment will follow at Oak Ridge Cemetery near Deadwood. May God bless the memory of Rose Nelson.
