Rose Marie Miles Conover Furois, 81, of Upland, CA and Provo, UT died Thursday, September 10, 2015.
Rose Marie was born in Spearfish, SD, December 1, 1933. She was the eldest daughter of Norman and Marie Miles, and grew up in Spearfish, in the Black Hills of South Dakota, and Sundance, Wyoming.
Rose Marie graduated from Sundance High School in 1951. She received an Associate Degree in Business Administration in Rapid City, SD, and worked in Rapid City after graduation.
In 1955, Rose Marie married John Cedric "Ced" Conover, a graduate of the Naval Academy. The Conovers moved several times in their early marriage, including Okinawa, Japan where their first child Michael John was born. Timothy Gene and Sharon Marie were born when they returned to the United States. The family moved to Alexandria, Virginia in 1966. For 17 years they lived in Waynewood along the Potomac River, the property once part of George Washington's Mount Vernon estate.
Rose Marie worked in Real Estate and as head of the American Red Cross in Old Town Alexandria in the 1970s.
Rose Marie loved her family, enjoyed sharing time with her friends and being of service. People flocked to Rose Marie on account of her zest for life and interest in others. She especially enjoyed giving dinner parties in her home, and was known for her cooking talents, and making all recipes from scratch.
Rose Marie was the mom who was part of every aspect of her children's lives. She was the swimming-mom, football-mom, drama-mom, music-mom, tap-dancing-mom, PTA-mom, and more. She was devoted to raising her children to be successful adults and the best they could be, which included being etiquette-mom. She was the mom who crowded children and friends into the car after an event to take the group for pizza. And when the car got full she'd say, "There's always room for one more." (That was before the day of seatbelts.) She stayed up late into the night typing school reports, ironing clothes, and wrapping Christmas gifts. One of her joys was to have her children experience first hand the historic sites of Washington, D.C. Her children recall countless adventures to see the exhibits at the Smithsonian, the Washington Monument, the National Capital, the White House, attending melodramas at Ford's Theatre, excursions to the Shenandoah Mountains and Williamsburg, watching fireworks over the Potomac River, and sipping mint juleps on the veranda at Mount Vernon.
Rose Marie and Ced later divorced, and in 1983 Rose Marie married a childhood friend from St. Onge, SD, James Furois. They lived in Upland, California for 30 years. Rose Marie worked for the World Dryer Corporation and then as Administrative Assistant for Vice President of Student Affairs/Dean of Students for Pitzer College in Claremont, CA.
For the last 18 months of her life Rose Marie lived close to her daughter Shari in Provo, Utah and had some special mother-daughter time.
Rose Marie was predeceased by her son Timothy (2011), and both Ced Conover (2014) and James Furois (2014). She is survived by two children, Michael Conover of Virginia Beach, VA and Shari (Andy) Rosenberg of Singer Island, FL.
Memorial services will be held at 10 am on Tuesday, October 27th at the St. Onge Cemetery where Rose Marie will be buried in the Furois family plot, beside her husband, the late James G. Furois.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in her honor to the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention, in remembrance of her beloved son Tim Conover.
