Rosalie Cone Driscoll, 72, died Sunday July 4, 2010 at her home.
A graveside service will be held Thursday July 8, at 10:00 A.M. at Mountain Lawn Cemetery south of Lead. A memorial service celebrating Rosalie's life will be held at the Christian Ministry Center of the Lead Trinity United Methodist Church on Saturday, July 24 at 2:00 P.M. A memorial has been established for St. Jude's Children's Hospital.
Rosalie was born June 7, 1938 in Mason City, Iowa to Harold and Esther (Heeren) Cone. At the age of 4 she moved to Lead, South Dakota and was a 1956 graduate of Lead High School. She earned a BA degree from the University of Colorado at Greeley and an MA degree from the University of South Dakota. Rosalie devoted her life to teaching children. She took great joy in teaching her many students how to read. Rosalie was a lifelong learner continuing her education after she earned her masters degree always trying to improve her teaching skills and searching for new techniques that assisted her student's learning. Rosalie taught in Santa Monica CA. for two years before returning to South Dakota where she taught 1st grade in the Vermillion School District for 29 years. Rosalie's greatest joy was spending time with her family especially her 8 grandchildren. Rosalie moved to Spearfish, South Dakota in 2008. She was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma, United Methodist Women, South Dakota Retired Teachers, and Bide-A-Wee Sewing Club.
She is survived by her two children Whitney (Laurie) Driscoll of Spearfish, Colleen (Dwight) Carroll of Harlan, IA, her sister Kathy (Wayne) Wanhanen of Deadwood and her 8 grandchildren, Andrea and Ryan Driscoll; Catie, Shiloh, Jack, Mary, Will and Ev Carroll; her cousins and nieces. Her parents preceded her in death.
