Obituary

Rory Lynn Gunderman was born July 24, 1984 in Newcastle Wy, to Ric and Kim Mead Gunderman. He died on September 16, 2015. Private services were held on September 22, 2015.

Rory spent his first 5 years in Osage, Wy, and then moved with his family in 1989 to Moorcroft. He attended school in Moorcroft, graduating in May 2002. He then attended college in Rock Springs and Humboldt State University, Arcata, California. Rory continued his education earning a degree in English Literature from the University of Wyoming on December 3, 2010. He then moved on to further his education at Moi University in Eldoret, Kenya.

Rory was a traveler, beginning with his first trip to England at the age of 12 with his Uncle Eric. His travels later took him to Europe several times, where he explored Germany, France, Austria, Holland, Belgium and the Czech Republic. He was on the USA Wrestling Team that went to Mexico in 2002. He traveled to Kenya and Ethiopia Africa. One summer was spent exploring Costa Rica, and Nicaragua. He also loved the mountains, whether in Wyoming, California, Colorado, and Utah or wherever his "walk-a-bouts" took him. After every journey he would return home with a story and with his pockets full of trinkets for his family and friends.

Rory spent many years as a sponsor for AA and NA, counseling and helping others with their recoveries. He had great compassion for the indigent, and would often help at soup kitchens or shelters.

There was always a book in his hand or his backpack. He had written several short stories, and hoped someday to have a novel published. In September 2010, he was awarded an Undergraduate Research Award from the University of Wyoming for his paper titled "New Historical Theory and an Anti-Masonic Edgar," the Edgar being Edgar Allan Poe. All the research for this paper was conducted in the Toppan Rare Books Library.

His best times were spent with his family and friends whether at a fishing hole, hunting camp, climbing rocks, or just sitting quietly reading. He always had a rock in his pocket and a song in his head.

He is survived by his dad, Ric Gunderman; mom, Kim (Brad) Holyoak; sister, Roxie (Myke) Gerry, their children Tylla and Kendyll; grandparents, Dan and Sandy Mead; uncles, Eric (Melissa) Mead, children Elliot, & Sydney, Dan (Nancy) Mead, Bill (Colleen) Gunderman; cousins, Carrey (Katie) Gunderman, Tyler Gunderman and special friends Natalia and Nick, and Bender.

He was preceded in death by grandparents, Charlotte (Blondie) and John Gunderman.

His family requests that in his honor you be kind to a stranger, and take care of our planet.
