Ronald Walker, 86 of Spearfish, passed away on February 21, 2016 at Ft. Meade VA Medical Center.
Ron was born on August 31, 1929 in Garden City, Kansas to Roy and Vera (Johnson) Walker. After graduating from high school, Ron enlisted in the US Army proudly serving in World War II and the Korean Wars. In 1970, he married Jan Beaird-Williamson and following they moved to Spearfish. They owned and operated Walker Assisted Living for many years.
Ron was an active member of the VFW 5860, past Post Commander and a former member of the Spearfish Volunteer Fire Department. He enjoyed spending time at the VFW, with "Susie" his Harley Davison, shooting pool and playing poker.
He is survived by his wife, Jan of Spearfish; step-daughters, Kathy Beach of Oregon, Donna Hardie of Sioux Falls and Patti Maloney of Washington; grandchildren, Brian, Devon, Noah, Corey, Michelle, Jason, Michael, Lezlee, Tyler and Lucas; two great-grandchildren, Liam and Amelia. He was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents.
Graveside services will be at 10:00 AM on Thursday, February 25, 2016 at Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis. Military honors will be provided by the Spearfish Honor Guard and the US Army. In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established to benefit the VFW Homeless Veterans.
Arrangements are under the care of Fidler-Isburg Funeral Chapels and Crematory Service of Spearfish.
