Ronald G. Carver, Major U.S. Air force Retired passed away, Friday, June 19, 2009 at Edgewood Vista Assisted Living in Spearfish.
Visitation will be from 1-3 P.M., Monday, June 22, 2009 at Fidler-Isburg Funeral Chapel in Spearfish.
Graveside funeral services will be held at 9:00 A.M., Tuesday, June 23, 2009 at Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis, SD with Chaplain Charley Conger officiating. Full Military Honors will be given by the Spearfish Honor Guard.
In lieu of flowers a memorial has been established.
Ronald was born July 15, 1924 to Walter B. and Erma R. (Sterrett) Carver in Lamar, Colorado. He graduated from high school in Wiley, CO, and attended agriculture college briefly before joining the United States Army Air Corp. He served for 20 years as a pilot and flight instructor and was stationed at numerous places around the world, also serving as an officer during WW II and Korea. He was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross and Air Medal for his participation in heavy bombardment combat missions over continental Europe in 1944. He was united in marriage to Louella Hitchcock in August of 1945; to this union four children were born. The couple lived in Minot, North Dakota and Atlanta, Georgia, before settling in Spearfish in 1995. Ron enjoyed sports especially golfing.
Survivors include one daughter, Karyn Powell of Atlanta, GA, three sons, Dan Carver of Rapid City, Tom Carver of Cheyenne, WY and Steve Carver of Minot, ND, one sister, Marlene Probst of Tucson, AZ, seven grandchildren; Michael Wawerna, Atlanta, Tony Carver, Rapid City, Clint Carver, Marshall, MN, Elizabeth Wawerna, New York, NY, Stephanie Carver, Cheyenne, WY, Chad Carver, Sylva, NC, and Angela Dunn, Beatrice, NE, five great-grandchildren and he also enjoyed a large extended family.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 61 years, Louella and two brothers, Charles and Kenneth.
