Roger Talley passed away on February 27, 2025, at Monument Health-Spearfish, with family at his side.
Roger D. Talley was born in Fort Worth, Texas on August 8, 1942, to Mary Henley. Roger was raised by his grandmother, Martha Letha Talley and grandfather, Seth Ward Talley. Roger moved to South Dakota in the summer of 1963. He worked for Sky Ranch for Boys as a counselor and later became a teacher and principal until 1975. In 1974, he adopted 2 twin boys, Michael and Andy, giving them the last name as Talley. Roger moved to Watertown in 1975, and worked at the Holy Rosary School in Kranzburg, SD for two years, before working as a caseworker at the Human Services Agency in Watertown for 5 years. In 1980, he moved to Pierre, SD to become the executive director of OAHE Inc. He remained at that job for 5 years, after which he worked various jobs intermittently. Roger was preceded in death by his son, Andy, in 1988. In 2021, Roger moved to Spearfish, SD.
Roger loved animals, especially dogs. He had several dogs throughout his life. Roger also loved country music, particularly classic country. He sang and played guitar and entertained his family and friends.
Roger was preceded in death by his brothers, Larry Murray and Robert Murray; his sister, Shiela, and his sister-in-law, Donna Murray. Those who will cherish his memory include his son, Michael Talley; grandson, Andy Talley; his close friends, the children of Maggie and Tony Langer, Roger, Ron, Allen, Jerry, Ray, and Sharon; friends, Laura Charleson, her mother Etta and children, especially Colby Charleson; and Jesse Seaman, who he considered a son.
