Roger Allen Stagner, 72, of Central City passed on to a better place on Monday, November 29, 2010 at Rapid City Regional Hospital.
He was born in McClusky, North Dakota to Edward (Bud) and Elsie (Zinke) Stagner on August 9, 1939. He attended high school in Glendive, Montana. In 1957 he joined the Navy and received his honorable discharge in 1960. Roger married Jeanne Wicka at Sacred Heart parish in Glendive, Montana in 1960. To this union, God blessed them with six children.
Roger started as a miner at Homestake Mining Company in 1962. He worked as a shift boss from 1985 until his health forced him to retire in 1989. In his spare time, Roger enjoyed fishing and camping at numerous lakes in the Black Hills area with family and friends. His passion was building and creating woodworking projects for family and friends, which they will always cherish.
Grateful for sharing his life are his wife, Jeanne, of fifty years. His six children, Steven (Lecia) Stagner, Scott Stagner, Ronda (Brian) Gerving, all of Lead, Robert (Julie) Stagner of Deadwood, Ronald (Brandy) Stagner of Rapid City, and Michael (Kathy) Stagner of Sioux Falls. Also for grateful for sharing in his life are 13 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by a brother Gerald Stagner (Big Fork, MT), 3 nieces, one nephew, and a brother-in-law, Robert Wicka of rural Sturgis. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Visitation will be Thursday, December 2, 2010 at St. Patrick's Church in Lead from 5-7pm, followed by a Rosary at 7pm. Funeral services will be at St. Patrick's Church on Friday, December 3, 2010 at 11 AM, followed by a luncheon. Interment will be at St. Aloysius in Sturgis, South Dakota following the luncheon.
