Roger Terry Geist, 83 of Spearfish, passed away August 7th of 2018 at his home in Spearfish, SD. His passing was unexpected but he went peacefully.

Roger was born in Belle Fourche, SD to Daniel and Gladys Geist. He spent his childhood in Highmore and then in Lead/Deadwood, SD where he graduated from DHS in 1953.   In 1957, he enlisted in the Navy and was sent to San Diego for basic training. In 1959, he met the love of his life, Jerri Lee Heimrick, they got married in Sunnyvale, CA and lived the military life all over the world.

Roger drove for Dakota Bus. He enjoyed spending time with friends and family and loved to cook. Man could he cook! Come October, they turned into "snowbirds" and would head to Yuma, AZ where they spent time with good friends and more food cooked by Roger and Dave Chandler. He also drove school bus while in Yuma. He was a member of the All Angels Episcopal Church.

Roger is survived by his wife of nearly 59 years, two children, Randy and Jeff (Keri) and two granddaughters, Madalynn and Jenna Geist of Spearfish, sister-in-law, Jean Heimrick Martin of Lead and niece, Amanda Martin of Big Sky, MT. He treated all friends and family like they were his own.  He was preceded in death by his infant daughter, Terri Jean 6 months, his father Daniel and mother Gladys.

Services will be held at the Black Hills National Cemetery in the rotunda on August 16th at 2pm.  A reception to follow the ceremony will be held at the home of Jeff and Keri Geist at 1045 N. Canyon, Spearfish SD.
