Obituary
Robert Lee (Bob) Townsend 74, of Newcastle, WY, passed away Friday July 9, 2010 at home with his family surrounding him.
Funeral services will be at 2:00 P.M. on Wednesday, July 14, 2010 at the Senior Citizen Center, in Newcastle. Visitation will take place one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow at Greenwood Cemetery.
He was born to Neil K and Ruby E (Donelson) Townsend December 7, 1935. He grew up on a ranch near Clareton, WY which was established by family members. He was very proud of the ranch, his family, parents, brother and sister, and many neighbors who made up the community.He attended several schools in the area as his mother was a teacher. While attending high school in Upton, Wyoming, he met and married Evelyn Updike. To that union were born four children: Richard, Emily, Norene (Tina), and David(now deceased).They later got a divorce. He then met and married Betty Evans in October, 1964. Betty had four children: Tom, Donna, Lori, and Bobbi. He raised these children and loved them as his own. The family now numbered eight. Bob and Betty had Jodi who was a joy to all. Oldest brother Dick taught her how to spell when she was three years old. To the rest of the family, she was their baby. As the years passed the family grew with spouses, grandchildren,
great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. He was a man with the ability to love unconditionally. He worked at the various bentonite plants, in the oil fields, driving truck and later retired from Pacer Mining in Custer.
Surviving are those who will always wish he was still here to be husband, brother, best friend, confident and most of all "Dad". He is survived by his wife Betty, sister Lois, brother Glen (Helga), his children, Dick (Sandy)Townsend, Emily Townsend-Hill, Norene (Dan) Carlin, Tom (June) Evans, Donna (Larry)Buurma, Lori (Ralph)Conklin, Bobbi (Kim) Henry, and Jodi(Tony)Milner , 30 grandchildren, 27 great-grand children and 6 great-great grandchildren, brother in laws, sisters-in-laws and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Neil and Ruby, his son David Townsend and his grandsons Andrew (A.J.) Brooks and William Wilcox.
Arrangements are under the care of Fidler-Roberts & Isburg Funeral Chapel of Sundance, WY.
