Robert Duane Roen, 77, Spearfish, SD died Wednesday, January 16, 2013 at his home. He was born January 19, 1935 in Bowman, ND to Henry and Elizabeth (Kradvil) Roen.


He was raised in the Bowman area, where he graduated from high school. Bob went into ranching after graduating from high school. A short time later he met and married the beautiful new school teacher who came to town, Virginia Sorlie on August 25, 1954. They ranched together for nearly 50 years. Bob was well known for his mechanical abilities, being able to fix anything on the ranch. He also was an insurance agent, and sold water softeners for a time. Bob was a very talented singer, who loved the chance to sing. His children followed his lead as Bobby was a talented musician and Julie an avid cowgirl. After leaving the ranch, they lived in several places, before settling in Spearfish.


Robert is survived by his wife of over 50 years, Virginia, Spearfish, sister Ethel Johnson, Reeder, ND, son-in-law Russ (Lauri) Olsen and their daughters; Emily, Hailee and Lynsie. He was preceded in death by his parents; children, Jonathon, Robert and Julie Roen; brothers, Chriss, Glen, Leland; and sister Edith.

Memorial Services for Robert will be at 10:00 AM, Saturday, January 19, 2013 at St. James Lutheran Church in Belle Fourche, with Reverend Jeff Otterman officiating.
