Robert "Bob" Mensing, 64 of Lake Havasu, AZ formerly of Lemmon and Spearfish, SD, passed away on October 25, 2013 at his home.
Bob was born on May 21, 1949 to Robert and Vera (Smith) Mensing in Lemmon, SD. After graduating from high school in Lemon he attended school at Southern State College in Springfield, SD. He entered the US Army in June of 1969, serving with Troop F, 17th Cavalry, 196th Infantry Brigade in Southeast Asia during the Vietnam War, and was Honorable discharged in November of 1970. During his time served he was awarded the Army Commendation Medal, Bronze Star and the Purple Heart for heroism and wounds received in action in Vietnam.
Bob always had a way of making you feel like you were the only person in the room – even in a crowd. He took a sincere and complete interest in whatever you were saying or doing, making you feel treasured and special. Bobbie's zest for life was contagious. His storytelling brought every adventure of his to life, and made you wish you had been there with him to experience the beauty he saw in everyone and everything. He had a carefree spirit, smile, and a true commitment to family and friends and always spread a bit of sunshine to everyone he met.
Survivors include his sisters, Jacqueline Lockert of Jordan, MN and Connie Haselhorst of Whitewood, SD; special friend Kristen McDermott; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 10:00 A.M., Thursday, November 7, 2013 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Spearfish. Visitation will be one hour prior to the Mass. Burial with full military honors will follow at Black Hills National Cemetery.
