Obituary

Robert "Bob" Edgar Knapp, age 80, of Lead, SD, passed away unexpectedly, but peacefully in his sleep on September 30, 2015. Bob was a loving husband, father, uncle, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend.

He was born March 2, 1935 in Perry, Iowa to parents Crawford and Beulah Knapp. Bob graduated from Sturgis High School and enjoyed hunting, fishing, and basketball growing up. He went on to play basketball at the University of Denver where he met Barbara Wagnon. They were married September 9, 1956 and graduated in 1957.

Bob had an entrepreneurial spirit and owned various restaurants over the years. Although he spent many years in Ohio, Missouri, and Florida, he felt most at home at his cabin in the Black Hills. Summers were spent fishing, teaching grandkids how to fish and hunt, playing cards, preparing delectable meals (fried trout was a favorite), entertaining friends, and enjoying the beauty that surrounded him.

Bob is preceded in death by his beloved wife of 46 years, Barbara; parents, Crawford and Beulah; brothers, Ed and Dave; and nephew, Steve. Bob is survived by his devoted friend, Connie Hyde; daughters, Shawn (Rich), Kelly (Bill), and Traci (Mark); grandchildren, Courtney (Ian), Liam, Robert, Brett, and Garrett; great grandsons, Gavin and Hudson; and nephews Bill (Diane), Chuck (Cindi), and Tom (Beth).

Memorial services will be held at 11:00 am on Monday, October 5, 2015 at Trinity United Methodist Church in Lead, South Dakota. A celebration of life lunch will immediately follow the service at the church. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the charity of your choice.
