Obituary

Richard Walter Peterson, 87, formerly of Lead), died November 5, 2014 at his home in Spearfish, South Dakota.

Richard was born in Lead, South Dakota to Richard P. and Cornelia S. Peterson. He grew up in the Park Avenue area of Lead. Following his graduation from Lead High School in 1943, he enlisted in the Marine Corp and served from 1943 to 1946. After discharge, he attended a year at Black Hills State. He married Arlene Bierschenk on January 12, 1947 in Lead.

Richard was employed in 1947 at Homestake Gold Mine and worked in various capacities for 41 years. He ended his employment as head of construction. His greatest joys were family and friends. He loved working with his hands and telling stories. He was a proud American who loved the Black Hills.

He is survived by his wife of 67 years; his sister, Dora Pohl, Clearwater, FL and eight nieces and nephews. Richard was preceded in death by his parents; brother Wes and sister Margie.

Memorial services will be at 10:30 AM, Wednesday, November 12, 2014 at the Whitewood Presbyterian Church, Whitewood, South Dakota. Inurnment will be at Black Hills National Cemetery at 1:00 PM.
