Obituary

Richard Allen Harris, 72 of Belle Fourche and formerly of Lead entered his eternal home on Saturday, January 11, 2014 at his home.

Rich was born on September 4, 1941 to Alfred and Marie Harris in Deadwood, SD. On September 26, 1964 Rich was united to the love of his life Valetta Delahoyde and to this union two children were born, son, Terry (Lori) Harris, Spearfish and daughter, Tina (Tony) Bicek, Mitchell; grandchildren, Justin (Meghan) Bicek, Stillwater, MN, Matthew (Carrie) Lewis, Spearfish, Michaela (Michael) Bertram, Sioux Falls, Jordan Bicek, Mitchell, Chandler (Jessie) Harris, Spearfish, Rebecca Harris, Spearfish, Katelyn Bicek, Mitchell; seven great-grandchildren, Blade Lewis, Aiden Lewis, Kai Lewis (Matthew & Carrie), Beckham Bertram, Zoey Bertram (Michael & Michaela), Ella Bicek (Justin & Meghan), Peyton Harris (Chandler Harris & Jessie Rantapaa).

Richie, as we all knew him by, went to the St Patrick Catholic Elementary School and High School in Lead. Richie started work at Homestake Gold Mine right out of high school, first as a mechanic and later as a maintenance/mechanic supervisor, both on the surface and also for mechanics underground. He worked there for 32 years before retirement. Richie, Valetta and Terry then purchased a fuel station and mechanic shop in Belle Fourche for 15 years before retiring.

Richie's love for the outdoors was a part of all of our lives, from 30+ years of stockcar racing to the time at the lake fishing and skiing. His children and grandchildren all spent time enjoying his hobbies and activities. And he also enjoyed all of their activities.
But in the last 20 years his love changed. Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ called him to faith and he and Valetta were confirmed at the Hope Lutheran Church in Spearfish. His faith radiated as he would help serve in any way possible for his congregation. Richie will be greatly missed by all of our families and friends for his rich smile and comforting words. Richie recently confessed in Paul's words to the Ephesians Chapter 2 versus 8,9.

For it is by Grace you have been saved, through faith, this is not from yourselves, it is a Gift of God not by works, so that no one can boast.

Richie is also survived by his brother, Ed (Linda) Harris, Spearfish; nephews and nieces, Mark (Alecia) Harris, Whitewood, Delphine (Norley) Becker, Plankinton, Marvin (Deb) Jensen, Deadwood, Darlene (David) Braun, Pierre, Steven (Tina) Jenson, Belle Fourche, and many other great nieces, nephews and cousins. Rich was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Zeta in April of 1985.

Memorial services will be at 11:00 A.M. on Thursday, January 16, 2014 at Hope Lutheran Church in Spearfish with Pastor Mark Shultz officiating.

Arrangements are under the care of Fidler-Isburg Funeral Chapels & Crematory Service of Spearfish.
