Richard "Dick" Crum, age 73, passed away April 29, 2024 in Spearfish, SD. He was born
December 11, 1950 in Newcastle, WY. Richard was a beloved partner, father, grandfather,
brother, and friend.
Survived by his loving partner, Linda Johnson Spearfish, SD; daughter Jennifer (Doug) Freeling
San Marcos, CA; grandsons Luke Freeling San Marcos, CA; and Carson Freeling Seattle, WA;
brother David H. (Mary) Crum Casper, WY; nieces Stacy (Troy) Duran Denver, CO and Laura
(Anthony) Comstock Centennial, CO; nephew David M. (Lisa) Crum Casper, WY; and long time
friend Pam (Bill) Clarkson.
Richard was preceded in death by his parents, David N. Crum and C. Lorraine (Cummings)
Crum, and brother Thomas E. Crum.
Dick graduated high school in Newcastle, WY, and in 1973 received a BS in Petroleum
Engineering from the University of WY. He had a successful career with Gulf Oil and Halliburton
before starting his own consulting company. Richard's passion for the oil business led him to
travel across several states and to the Gulf of Mexico to consult on oil rigs. He later co-owned
Crum's Department Store with his family.
In his free time, Dick enjoyed golfing and traveling to California to spend time with his daughter
and family, who brought him immense joy. Richard will be deeply missed by those who loved
him.
The family will host a memorial service at the First United Methodist Church in Newcastle, WY
on May 11, 2024 at 11 AM. Contributions can be made to the church at PO Box 579 Newcastle,
WY 82701 in Richard's name.
