Richard Brooks Anderson, 89, of Spearfish, passed away on March 1, 2016 after a short stay at the David M. Dorsett Healthcare Center.
He was born on May 21, 1926 in Sioux City, Iowa to the late Everett and Virginia (Herford) Anderson.
Richard attended school at Lead High before he joined the Army in late 1945 and served his country for almost 30 years. He was very proud of the Army and his service to his country, one tour in Korea, two tours in Vietnam and several trips to US Army Europe. After his military service he continued to work for the Army in a civilian status. When he retired in 1992, he returned to the Black Hills and enjoyed his retirement playing golf with his friends and partners, Tom, Bruce and Duane, until Dementia got the best of him.
Richard is survived by his wife Marie; son, Steve (Sandy); granddaughter, Lorrae (Trent) Aker; grandson, Spencer (Cassidy) Anderson and five great-granddaughters. His son, Ray preceded him in October 2013.
Memorial services will be held at 2:30 PM on Thursday, March 10, 2016 at the Black Hills National Cemetery. A memorial has been established to the DC Booth Fish Hatchery. A reception will follow the burial at the Spearfish County Club.
