Renae was born on July 12,1957 in Brookings, SD, to Norman and Evelyn (Liebnow) Berkland. She was the youngest of seven children.  She graduated from Brookings High School in 1975, marrying her high school sweetheart Douglas Zwart.  He died in 1979.  Renae attended BHSU, marrying Brett Huber in 1982, the couple welcomed their daughter Sarah in 1983, and following Renae's dream the family moved to Alaska in 1984.  Renae and Brett welcomed son Benjamin in 1989 and Brett in 1993.  Renae held many jobs throughout her lifetime; most related to food including opening the Prairie Schooner in Belle Fourche, SD. Renae received her bachelors degree from BHSU in 1999. During her lifetime Renae moved frequently, enjoying spending time on Swanson Lake in Nebraska, helping her family in Brookings, her daughter in California, and officially retired in Arizona spending time on the Colorado River before agreeing to move to be close to her grandkids in Spearfish, SD in 2021.

Renae enjoyed reading, music, traveling, gardening and sports throughout her lifetime. She supported BHSU athletics, was a member at Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Spearfish, SD and was always willing to chip in and help out.  Her yard and home showed her green thumb.  She was a very hard-working, modest and independent woman often remarking her greatest accomplishment was her children. She was a very proud grandma and will greatly be missed.
