Obituary

Regina Patricia Tchida arrived in Jesus’ arms on Saturday, August 22nd, 2026, at the age of 88.

Amazing grace, how sweet the sound

That saved a wretch like me

I once was lost, but now am found

Was blind, but now I see.

As these words were sung, surrounded by loved ones, she peacefully passed from this life to the next and Jesus welcomed her to her heavenly home.

She was born on June 5th, 1938, to Maynard and Garnette Holman, in Sisseton, SD.

Regina spent her life as a dedicated mother and grandmother. She was a natural caretaker. She provided her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren with endless generosity and love! She was famous for her pies and other baked delights. She loved making each one of her family members their favorite when she knew they were coming to visit. Regina absolutely loved to dance! Jitterbugging on the dance floor at Elk Creek was something she enjoyed very much. She enjoyed going to garage sales and negotiating the gems she found. She enjoyed taking care of plants alongside her daughter, Debbie, who spent endless hours caring for Regina over the years.

Regina was a devout Christian and loved attending church and learning about the truth of God's word. She truly made her mark in the communities of the Black Hills, becoming known as that great, beautiful lady everyone always enjoyed talking to. She often shared some of her “tips” from working in Deadwood with her grandkids. If you ever needed anything she was always generous with her money or time. Melissa fondly remembers the smell of lipstick and gum! Regina loved to get her hair done and always said “let me get my lipstick” before taking a photo, reminiscent of the classically beautiful photograph pictured here. There are so many words that describe her – humble, witty, humorous, dependable, selfless, persevering, and unconditionally loving. Regina’s joyous memory will hold those who loved her safely and eternally, for that is the profound mark that she left on them with her tight embrace. She is a light of life that will never burn out.

Regina is survived by her sister Shirley Osborne; her children Debra (Stan) James, Janet (Troy) Martinson, Diana Williamson, Patrick (Charletta) Thovson, and Daniel (Charity) Tchida; 13 grandchildren – Melissa, Tessa, Eric, Lyndsey, Nick, Robert, Daniel, Adam, Jonah, Patrick “Logen”, Chase, Valeen, and Damon; as well as 11 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her siblings Cecil Holman, Roy Holman, Doris Phillips, Olaf “Ole” Holman, Ella Mae Fryer, Leonard Holman, and Verna Hibbs; and her precious babies Tina Marie and Gregory Allen.

Graveside services will be at 3:00 PM on Friday, August 28, 2026, at Oak Ridge Cemetery near Deadwood, SD.
