Raymond Albert Nordstrom, 88, of Spearfish SD passed peacefully away on May 22, 2025. He was surrounded by his loving family at his side.

Ray was a member of the Army National Guard and was called to active duty during the Berlin Crisis. He was discharged in August of 1962. Upon his return to ND, he started working for Shultz and Lindsey of Fargo, ND where he rose to the rank of foreman; while paving the new National Interstate Highway.  His construction work took him all over the United States. Of all the places he worked, he fell in love with the Spearfish area and he decided to spend the rest of his life in the Black Hills. Throughout his career he developed two mobile home parks, Spearfish Valley Mobile Estates (1979) and Mountain Shadows (1993). He also partnered with Joe Jorgensen and developed Evan's Addition in Spearfish. Everyone who knew Ray, knew he was a very hard worker.

While working on I90 in SD, he met and then later married the love of his life Beverly (Hix) Johnson on December 17, 1976. They built a cabin together in Spearfish Canyon, where upon completion, they exchanged their wedding vows. Ray was a member of the United Methodist Church, Lion's Club, and Elks Lodge. Ray and Bev were avid motorcycle and snowmobile enthusiasts and took many trips with family and friends over the years. Upon retirement they spent many years travelling as snowbirds with their motorhome in AZ, FL, and the last 20 years, in Palm Springs, CA in which they met many new friends.

Ray also loved his family very much and was a wonderful husband, dad, uncle, grandpa and great grandpa. Ray loved telling stories and playing with big toys, especially his track backhoe. He always stressed the importance of developing a strong work ethic.
