Obituary

Raymond Douglas Howard, 76, of Sundance, Wyoming passed away at his home in Sundance on December 3, 2020.

Raymond was born on May 31, 1944, on the family farm near Klemme, Iowa, to Ned and Minnie Howard. Raymond grew up in Klemme where he attended school and graduated from Klemme High School in 1962.

Raymond moved to Wyoming in 1967. He loved Wyoming. Raymond worked at various jobs in sales and was a Certified Baker by trade. He sold Fireworks during the 1970's and 1980's along Interstate 80 in southern Wyoming. He worked at various bakeries in Laramie, Wyoming. In 1985, Raymond met Margaret Peggy Welch on a blind date in Laramie, WY. According to Peggy, he was the most gentle and kindest man she had ever met, and was just an "old fashioned gentleman", and never ever used foul language. They were married in Spearfish, SD, on December 28, 1985. To this union, one son was born, Lucas Lee Howard. In March of 1986, the couple decided to spend a night in Sundance, where they made their home for 35 years. Raymond loved Wyoming and Peggy loved South Dakota and the Black Hills, so that fit them perfectly.

Raymond worked in Spearfish for many years in Grocery Outlets and Sparrows Bakery. Raymond was an avid gardener. For many years his onions, carrots, tomatoes, beets, cabbages, and other vegetables won Grand Champion prizes at the Crook County Fair. He also created Black Hills Walnut Jewelry and will be missed at all of the Farmers Markets in the area with his beautiful displays. Raymond was very crafty with his hands and could fix anything around the house. Raymond also wrote poetry and was in the process of writing a book.

Those left to mourn his passing is his wife, Peggy Howard of Sundance, WY; his son, Lucas Howard of Rapid City, SD; two brothers, Roger Howard of Denton, TX and Elmer Howard of Omaha, NE. Raymond was preceded in death by his parents, Ned and Minnie Howard, and a brother Melvin Howard who died in 2011.

Arrangements are under the care of Fidler-Roberts & Isburg Funeral Chapel of Sundance. Online condolences may be written at www.fidler-isburgfuneralchapels.com
