Obituary

Raymond Lewis Dennis, 84, of Hulett, died on August 14, 2012 at the Wyoming Medical Center in Casper.

He was born November 23, 1927 to Lewis and Marjorie (Frisbee) Dennis at the ranch on the Little Missouri River. He attended several rural schools in the area growing up. His high school years were spent in Gillette and while there he worked at Edelman's Drug Store. He graduated in 1946 from high school.

He married Daisy Blakeman in Sundance on July 30, 1950. They had three sons: Kelly, Murray and Earl.

His entire life was spent on the home ranch in rural Crook County.

He joined Tower Lodge #44 AF&AM at Hulett in 1949. He was active in various branches of the Lodge and was Grand Master of Masons in Wyoming in 1968. He also laid the cornerstone at the current Crook County Courthouse that year.

Raymond enjoyed hunting and shooting, and was a Benefactor Life Member of the National Rifle Association. He made many life-long friends guiding hunters on the ranch over the years. He collected petrified wood, various rocks and artifacts, and shed horns and antlers. He was an avid reader and enjoyed time with family and friends, especially his great-granddaughters who were his "sweetie-pies".

He served various levels of school boards during the 50's, 60's and 70's. In 1986 he was elected Crook County Commissioner and served 8 years, spending time in Cheyenne, then and after, lobbying for Crook County and other concerns. He enjoyed politics and was a fervent conservative all his life.

Raymond is survived by his wife of 62 years Daisy; sons, Kelly (Rhonda), Murray, and Earl, all of Crook County; two grandsons, Cody (Kristy) and Wade of Carlile; and three great-granddaughters, Kayla, Alicia and Lindsey. He is also survived by his sister Dorothy Soule of Gillette. He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister Barbara.

Funeral services will be at 1:30 P.M. on Saturday, August 18, 2012 at the Old High School Gymnasium in Sundance. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. A memorial has been established to benefit the Moorcroft Volunteer EMS.

Arrangements are under the care of Fidler-Roberts & Isburg Funeral Chapel of Sundance. Online condolences may be written at www.fidler-isburgfuneralchapels.com
