Obituary

Ray Peck, 104 of Spearfish, passed away on August 7, 2014 at the Belle Fourche Healthcare Center in Belle Fourche.

Ray was born on March 9, 1910 to Fred and Anna (Baney) Peck in Perkins County, SD. He grew up on the farm in Perkins County. He worked on farms until 1934 when he came to Deadwood. He worked in the C.C.C. Camp for six months before working at the Porter Lumber Company in Deadwood. While working at the Lumber Company he married Edna Wandrei of Hettinger, ND. When he left the Lumber Company, he went to work for Homestake Mining Company as an underground miner. Ray retired from Homestake in 1975 after working there for 29 years and 10 months. Ray and Edna moved to Spearfish in 1979. Ray enjoyed gardening and walking his dog. Ray belonged to the Lead First Presbyterian Church and the United Church of Christ in Spearfish.

Ray in survived by his sister, Florence Papka of Spearfish and many nephews and nieces. He was preceded in death by his wife, parents and seven siblings.
