Randall "Randy" Paul Dahl, 42, died unexpectedly Wednesday, Sept. 4, in Greensburg, Pa.
Randy was born Dec. 7, 1970 to Dennis and Carole (Carlson) Dahl in Rapid City. Randy grew up in Spearfish, where he graduated from Spearfish High School in 1989. After enlisting in the U.S. Army, he attended West Point Prep School. He graduated from Carnegie Mellon University, Pittsburgh with a bachelor's degree in economics in 1996, while participating in the ROTC Program. Randy was a major serving in Sunny Point, N.C. with the U.S. Army Reserves. He was activated twice following 9/11. He was the manager of the Wells Fargo Advisors office in Greensburg, Pa.
On June 15, 1996 he was united in marriage to Leslie Lapham in Youngwood, Pa. They were blessed with two daughters, Taylor Brooke, 13, and Reghan Carolin, 10. Randy was devoted to family, friends, community and serving his country. He cared deeply for family and was very involved in his girls' activities. He loved going to sporting events such as NASCAR races, Steelers and Penguins games, four wheeling, and skiing with his girls. He also enjoyed coming back to the Black Hills to spend time with family and friends, hunting for the bigger buck, and cuddling any babies born since his last visit.
Randy enjoyed life to the fullest and always took opportunities to help others. He was motivated, intelligent and meticulous. He shared his time and skills in various ways coaching youth sports, being a member of the Military Officers Association of America, Rotary, serving on his church board and activities, and giving sound advice when asked.
Randy was preceded in death by grandparents Edna Dahl, Leonard and LeRoye Carlson, all of Spearfish; and father-in-law, William Lapham of Youngwood, Pa.
Survivors include his wife, Leslie Lapham Dahl, daughters, Taylor and Reghan of Greensburg, Pa.; parents, Dennis and Carole Dahl; grandfather, Paul Dahl of Spearfish; mother-in-law, Linda Lapham of Youngwood, Pa.; sisters, Cheri Dahl (Mark Hartman) of Custer, Christine (Chad) Blair of Deadwood; brother-in-law, Mark (Sandy) Lapham of Youngwood, Pa.; nieces and nephews, Rock Hayford, Zoe Hayford, Raylie Hartman, Ascher Blair, Dylan Lapham, and Miranda Lapham; as well as many aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Burial services took place on Sept. 9, 2013 in Greensburg St. Clair Cemetery after a military funeral service at Christ United Methodist Church. A "Celebration of Randy's Life" is scheduled for 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 21, 2013 at Grace Fellowship in Spearfish. In lieu of flowers, donations are being received at
