Rachel Junek, 92 of Sundance, passed away on December 24, 2012 at the Weston County Manor.
Memorial services will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Friday, December 28, 2012 at Fidler-Roberts & Isburg Funeral Chapel in Sundance, with burial to follow at Mt. Moriah Cemetery.
Rachel was born June 15, 1920 to Willard and Ada (O'Haver) Canfield. She was raised and attended school in the Sundance area. She attended Black Hills Teachers College and then the University of Wyoming earning a degree in teaching. She taught in the area for one year, before moving to Minneapolis and later to Anchorage, Alaska, where she worked for the Veterans Administration. She married John Wallace in 1948 in Anchorage, to this union two sons were born, Richard and Gregory. They made their home in various parts of the United States before settling in Cheyenne, Wyoming, where Rachel retired from the Veterans Administration. Rachel married Delmar Junek in 1989 and moved to Spearfish. Following Delmar's death, Rachel continued to live in Spearfish until moving to Sundance and later to Newcastle due to failing health.
Survivors include her son, Richard Wallace of Pensacola, FL; sister, Wanda Materi of Upton; six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband, Delmar Junek, son, Gregory, brothers, Kenneth and Wallace Canfield and sisters, Leona Roberts and Caroline Canfield.
