Phyllis Ann McFarland Scholz passed away January 30, 2011 at her home in Spearfish, South Dakota.
She was born in Carlton, Minnesota in 1919 to James and Elizabeth McFarland. She graduated from the University of Minnesota with degrees in Theatre and Teaching. She traveled for a few years before she went to Rye Colorado where she taught band, English and choir during the War[1945]. There she met and married the love of her life, Kenneth Carl Scholz. She and Ken celebrated their 66th wedding anniversary January 27. Ken's U S Forest Service career led to moving often. But Phyllis taught whenever she could. One year, she taught high school Speech and Drama in the afternoon and Kindergarten in the morning. They retired to Silver City, New Mexico, living there for 25 years. Phyllis and Ken moved to Spearfish, South Dakota to be near family.
She touched many lives with her teaching and love of learning and poetry and music. Everyone who knew her enjoyed her wit, her sense of humor and her love for life.
She is survived by her husband of 66 years, Kenneth Scholz, her three children, Bob Scholz (Cindy Totton), Markie Scholz (Dick Termes) and Claire Scholz, five grandchildren; Mathew Scholz(Jeanna), Lang Termes, Bonny Fleming, Kabe Termes, and Dylan Fleming; and two great grandchildren; Anna Fleming and Stella Scholz. She will be sorely missed.
