Percy O. Myran, 75, of Spearfish, SD, passed away Monday, July 27, 2009 at Dorsett Regional Senior Care in Spearfish.
Percy was born April 5, 1934 at Alpena, SD, to Melvin and Ida Myran, the first of their 5 children. He rode his horse Topsy to country school where he was taught by Edna Conklin at the one room school house. He attended high school at Wessington Springs, SD, and graduated with the class of 1954 from Alpena High School.
Percy married Verletta Grieve on March 9, 1956. They made their first home at the farm near Wessington Springs, then in Rapid City, SD, then in Topeka, KS, for 26 years. They returned to SD in 1995 and settled in Spearfish looking forward to their retirement years. Sadly, Verletta passed away in 1996. They were married for 40 years.
Percy was an over-the-road truck driver for 32 years, many years as an owner/operator for the North American Van Lines. Over his career he drove, literally, millions of miles criss-crossing this country.
Percy is survived by his children: Darrel (Sharon) Myran of Billings, MT, Gayla (Rand) Williams of Spearfish, Karen (Keith) Crook of Katy, TX, Carla (Barry) Urbanek, of Lawrence, KS, and Steven Myran of Spearfish, 14 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild. He is also survived sisters, Marilyn Hanson of Rapid City, SD, Julaine Hammer of Denver, CO, and LuJean (Ken) Steiner of Rapid City, and one brother, Lyle (Shannon) Myran of Brandon, SD.
Graveside memorial services will take place at 3:00p.m. on Saturday, August 1, 2009 at Hope Cemetery west of Wessington Springs.
