Obituary

Paul R. Sperb, 84 of Belle Fourche died Friday, July 10, 2009 at Rapid City Regional Hospital.

Memorial services will be at 10:00 A.M., Tuesday, July 14, 2009 at the First Congregational Church, U.C.C. in Belle Fourche with Pastor Del Neumeister officiating. Inurnment will take place at Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to benefit the Belle Fourche Public Library and National Honor Flight for WWII Veterans. Condolences may be sent to 814 6th Ave., Belle Fourche, SD 57717

He was born Paul Russell Brunson in Kimball, SD on July 10, 1925 to Levi and Elta (Smith) Brunson. The family moved to Oregon in 1928 and Paul was adopted by Louis R. Sperb. He attended school in Canby, Oregon and graduated from Canby Union High School in 1943. Paul joined the United States Army in December of 1943. He proudly served during WWII taking him to France and Germany. Following his honorable discharge in May of 1946 he returned to Oregon and worked as a carpenter for a brief time, before moving to Wyoming in 1949. He married Sadie Louise Queen on June 3, 1950 in Sundance, WY. The couple moved back to Oregon in 1954 where Paul hauled logs for two years. In 1956 they moved back to the Wyoming and South Dakota area, where Paul worked for various ranches over the years. In 1980 he started hauling bentonite at Colony, WY, he retired in 1990. After retirement Paul worked for Lueder's Food Center in Spearfish.

Paul was a member of the Amvets since 1967, the United Church of Christ of St. Onge and Belle Fourche and a charter member of the Moose Club of Belle Fourche.

Paul is survived his wife Sadie Sperb of Belle Fourche, two children, Albert (Kaye) Sperb of Fruitdale and Kathy (Mike) Kelley of Sturgis, six grandchildren; Steven, Paul and Michael Sperb, Aaron Antoine, Michael (Erica) and Josh Kelley, four great-grandchildren; Hannah, Hailey, Rylee and Ethan, two brothers, Lyle Sperb and Harold Sperb both of Oregon and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and several brothers and sisters.
