Obituary

Paul Thompson Price, 82, of Belle Fourche, SD, passed away March 2, 2013 at the Belle Fourche Health Care Center.

Paul was born on April 23, 1930 in Newell, SD to J. Riley and Bessie (Thompson) Price of Hoover, SD. He grew up east of Hoover and worked at the family ranch until joining the Navy in 1952.

While serving in the Navy, Paul was in the construction battalion as an Equipment Operator. He was stationed in Japan and Cubipoint, Philippines before being transferred to Hutchinson, KS, where he was honorably discharged in 1956 as a Third Class Petty Officer. While in the service Paul was awarded the Korean Service Medal, the United Nations Service Medal, and the National Defense Service Medal.

Paul married Beverly Koan on October 3, 1957 in Newell, SD. They resided at the family ranch until 1967 when they moved to Sturgis, SD. He briefly worked at the Homestake mine before driving truck for Gail Coe at Prairie City, SD. In 1970, the couple moved to Belle Fourche where Paul bought his own truck which he leased to several well known area businesses.

In 1989, they moved to Newton, KS and continued to drive for Floyd Wild. Paul semi-retired in 1995, and began pulling campers out of Indiana. Three years later the couple returned to Newton where Paul drove truck for Harvey Diehl and Kustom Karriers in the summer months. During the winter months the couple would relocate to Arizona. He fully retired in 2000, continuing to travel south for the winter and dividing time between family in Kansas and South Dakota.

If Paul wasn't spending time with family and friends playing cards and dominoes he could be found reading. He also enjoyed the outdoors by camping, fishing and hunting. He is survived by his wife, children, Paul (Susan) Price, Jr., Newton, KS, Debra (Darryl) Raber, Belle Fourche, SD, and David (Donna) Price, Newton, KS; nine grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; siblings, Helene Knighton, SD, James Price, VA and Lois Cornish, AZ.
