Paul Lester Dahl, 98, of Spearfish, SD died at Garden Hills Assisted Living on February 17, 2017.

Visitation will be from 3:00-6:00pm, February 26, 2017 at Fidler-Isburg Funeral Chapel in Spearfish. Funeral services will be at 10:00am, February 27 at the chapel with burial at Black Hills National Cemetery at 11:30am. A memorial has been established for Spearfish Veterans Monument.

Paul was born September 8, 1918 to Carl and Iva (McLeod) Dahl at Mt. Vernon, SD. The family moved to the Redwater area in 1935 where he helped on the farm. He met his wife, Edna Herber in 1938 and they married on Paul's birthday in 1941.

Paul joined the Army in 1942 and served in Africa and Italy during WWII. In 1945, the family settled in Spearfish, becoming involved in a trucking business and raising three sons. He owned a Conoco station, worked at Spearfish Motors, and served as Spearfish Public Works Director from 1970-1987.

Family time was very important as evidenced by the way Paul and Edna cheered on three kids, nine grandkids, and 21 great-grandkids all their lives. He loved people and found ways to help many throughout his 98 years.

Paul was preceded in death by his wife Edna; his parents; sister, Hilda; son, Gerald Herber Dahl and grandson, Randall Paul Dahl. Survivors include two sons, Von (MaryAnn) Dahl of Buffalo, WY and Dennis (Carole) of Spearfish; grandchildren, Jim (Shanna) Dahl, Bryan (Kris) Dahl, Brett (Cindy) Dahl, Cheri (Mark) Hartman, Chrissy (Chad) Blair, Dena Sandidge, Dixie Stone, Derek (Lauren) Dahl; granddaughter-in-law, Leslie Dahl; 21 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
