Patricia "Pat" McGrath, 88, of Spearfish, passed away on Wednesday, April 3, 2013 at the David M. Dorsett Health Care Center in Spearfish.
Patricia Louise McGrath was born on February 1, 1925 in Aberdeen to Cecil and Ellouise (Spurgeon) Allen. She lived in Aberdeen until 1935 when she and her mother moved to Deadwood. In 1941, she, her mother and step-father, Norman Hendrickson, moved to Vallejo, California. Pat graduated from Vallejo High School in 1943. Later she returned to Deadwood where she was employed by Eddie's Tire and Glass and the Trading Post.
On February 25, 1950 she and Bill McGrath were united in marriage. They lived in Sundance, Wyoming, Lead, Virginia and Oregon. They moved to Spearfish in 1954, where they raised and loved their family. She was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church, SD Association of the Blind, Beta Sigma Phi, Modern Mothers' Club and Think Thin Diet Club.
Pat always felt very blessed with the love of her family and the caring of her friends. "God bless the caretakers."
Surviving is her husband, Bill McGrath of Spearfish; daughter, Ellie Litschewski of Rapid City; three sons, Bill (Sue) McGrath of Spearfish, Mike (Carolyn) McGrath of Rapid City and Tim (LeAnn) McGrath of Ankeny, IA; six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren with two more expected in July. Her parents, stepfather, two step-brothers, Bob and Ken Hendrickson, and one grandson, Paul Litschewski preceded her in death.
Visitation with will be from 4-6 P.M. on Sunday, April 7, 2013 at Fidler-Isburg Funeral Chapel in Spearfish. Vigil service will be at 7:30 P.M. on Sunday, at Saint Joseph's Catholic Church. Mass of Christian burial will be at 10:00 A.M. Monday, April 8, 2013 at the church with burial to follow at Rose Hill Cemetery. Memorials can be directed to St. Joseph's Catholic Church or the SD Association of the Blind.
