IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Patricia D.
Ervin
June 15, 1951 – May 31, 2021
Patricia Diane Ervin, 69 passed away May 31, 2021 at Seven Sisters Living Center in Hot Springs, SD.
Patricia was born on June 15, 1951 in Sioux Falls, South Dakota to John and Lillian Ervin, the youngest of three sisters. She started grade school in Sioux Falls. Pat and her two sisters, Jan and Nita, lived in many places around the country. The family eventually moved to San Mateo, California, where she graduated from high school in 1969, and met her future husband Steve Gibson. Pat was a very talented artist. After attending California College of Arts and Crafts in Oakland she and Steve were married in 1972. They lived in San Mateo until moving to Spearfish where her children Jesse and Sarah were born. Divorced in 1980, she became a single mother and began working for the United States Postal Service. Her love of the sun and ocean drew her back to Petaluma, California where she and the kids enjoyed the beach, whale watching, boating, hiking and skiing in the mountains. She loved to travel, from camping to theme parks and national parks. She loved adventures. Wanting to be closer to her family, in 1990 Pat and the kids moved back to the Black Hills where she spent much of her time supporting her kids' sporting events. After Jesse and Sarah graduated from high school, Pat moved from Rapid City to Spearfish. She loved gardening, hiking, bicycling along the creek and spending time with her family. After 29 years with the US Postal Service, she retired in 2009. For 12 years Pat struggled with progressive dementia. Pat was a sweet soul and was always kind to everyone. She was dearly loved by her family and friends.
Pat will be greatly missed by her sisters, Jan and Nita, brother-in-law Gary, her children, Jesse and Sarah, her son-in-law, Jim, granddaughter, Laney, her nephew, Erik and all of her cousins and friends.
The family is deeply grateful to the wonderful caretakers at Seven Sisters Living Center in Hot Springs who always treated her with so much love.
She will be inurned with a private ceremony at Rose Hill Cemetery in Spearfish.
