Oriet Lucille Gasper, 92, passed away peacefully on January 22,2016 at Good Samaritan's of New Underwood.
She was born on June 21, 1923 in Florence, SD. to Gina (Skaim) and William Karinen. She was one of 5 children, sisters, Ginger, Mavis, Charlotte and brother, William (Billy), all who preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Lyle and a grandson, Matthew.
Oriet married the love of her life, Lyle Gasper, on June 7, 1943 in Watertown, SD. They were blessed with two sons, Daniel and Timothy. She loved being a wife and mother.
She enjoyed many hobbies including baking, bowling, sewing and many friends and family received beautiful gifts of her ceramics and crocheting. She was very accomplished at sewing and enjoyed creating gowns to take to the many conventions she attended with Lyle who worked for Hubbard Milling Company.
Oriet, over the years had quite a varied work history, working in the kitchen at St. Johns Evangelist Grade School, then as a cook in the summers at Camp Columbus Catholic Youth Camp...she adored working with children. Later, she also worked in the commissary at Ellsworth Air Force Base and later, enjoyed selling Avon where she could visit and make friends with her customers.
In later years Lyle and Oriet lived in Spearfish, SD and enjoyed going to Deadwood where they had fun socializing and making many more friends. Lyle and Oriet even were lucky to win a trip to Hawaii!
Recently, in the past few years she has been a resident of Good Samaritans in New Underwood where she received wonderful, loving care.
She is survived by sons, Timothy (wife, Mary Jeanne), Daniel (wife, Mary Jane) and two grandsons, Mark Gasper and Greg Gasper and three great-grandchildren, Colton, Parker, and Madison.
Grave side services for Oriet will be at 12:30 PM on Monday, January 25, 2016 at Black Hills National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family requests that contributions be made to Good Samaritans of New Underwood or the charity of their choice.
Arrangements are under the care of Fidler-Isburg Funeral Chapels and Crematory Service of Spearfish.
