Norman Sheldon, 93 of Spearfish, passed away on March 17, 2016 at Community Memorial Hospital in Redfield, SD.
Funeral services will be at 9:00 AM on Monday, March 21, 2016 at St. Paul Lutheran Church with visitation one hour prior. Burial will follow at Black Hills National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers a memorial has been established to benefit the Alzheimer's Foundation.
Norman was born on September 11, 1922 to Ben and Martha (Ford) Sheldon in Spink County, SD and went to rural and county school there. The family moved to Gary, Indiana in 1933 where he graduated from school. He married Hattie Belle Ragels on October 25, 1942 and was called to serve in the US Army on January 19, 1943. He served three years in the European Theater and returned home in December of 1945. They moved back to South Dakota where he worked for farmers for several years and Spink County for 16 years. The family moved to Pierre and he worked for an office machine repair shop for 14 years and a salesman for home improvement products for seven years. They retired to Spearfish in 1994.
Norman is survived by his wife, Hattie of Spearfish; daughters, Linda Schaefer of Spearfish, Norma Brugman of Rapid City and Debbie Wallace of Pierre; five grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
