Neva Irene Samuelson, 91 of Spearfish, went to be with her Savior on Saturday, March 19, 2016 surrounded by the love of her family.
Neva was born on May 22, 1924 to Carl A. and Maude (Yates) Griffith at Dupree, SD. She attended school in the Dupree and Faith areas until her high school graduation. She then attended Central Business College in Kansas City, Missouri and worked at the Kansas City Board of Trade until her marriage to Charles H. Samuelson on September 26, 1944. They lived in Ft. Leonard Wood, MO and Vermillion, SD while Charles served in the US Army before returning to Faith. To this union eight children were born. In 1969, the family moved to Spearfish where Neva has mostly resided since.
Neva's life was tirelessly devoted to children. First and foremost, she was an unlimited source of love and guidance to her family, her grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. The children she generously cared for over the years at her home-based daycare number in the hundreds. She treasured children above all else. In return, she was cherished by so many. She will be missed.
Neva is survived by her children, Butch (LouAnn) Samuelson of Whitewood, Lois (Jim) Newton of Spearfish, Treva (Rod) Golz of Johnson Siding, John (Marcia) Samuelson of Faith, David (Valerie) Samuelson of St. Onge, Mary (Patrick) Schilling of Sheridan, WY and Lauri (Dave) Pfannenstiel of Sheridan, WY. She was "Gramma Sammy" to 24 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren with three on the way. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles; her daughter, Ginger Waterland; daughter-in-law, Colleen (Kelly) Samuelson; her parents and all twelve of her siblings.
Visitation will be from 4-6 PM on Wednesday, March 23, 2016 at Fidler-Isburg Funeral Chapel in Spearfish. Funeral services will be 10:00 AM on Thursday, March 24 at the funeral chapel. Burial will follow at the Samuelson Family Cemetery near Faith. A memorial has been established in her name.
