Nettie H. Smothers, 105, of Spearfish, SD, passed away June 13, 2009 at Serenity Corner Assisted Living in Spearfish.

Funeral services will be at 2:00p.m. on Thursday, June 18, 2009 at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Spearfish, with Pastor Kent Stillson officiating, burial will follow at Rose Hill Cemetery in Spearfish. Visitation will be at the church for one hour prior to the funeral service. A memorial has been established to Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Spearfish.

Nettie was born on September 19, 1903 on a farm near Goodwin, SD, to Christ and Ellen Bjerke. She attended country school where they held church and she was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. On June 17, 1922 she married Wayne Smothers at Watertown, SD. A daughter, Ruth, was born in 1926. They lived on two different farms near Strandburg, SD. In 1937 they moved to Watertown and in 1975 to Spearfish to be near family. For the last years few years she has been a resident of Serenity Corner Assisted Living.

Nettie enjoyed her flower gardens, fishing, playing pinochle, fancy work and all family get togethers. She was a member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church, belonging to the quilting group, ladies aid, the senior citizens center and played in the Happy Times Band.

Nettie is survived by her daughter, Ruth Cooper and her husband Ron of Spearfish, a half sister Evelyn of Oregon, a half brother Ernest of Wisconsin, grandchildren, Craig and Mary Cooper of Spearfish, and Conrad and Sharilyn Cooper of Douglas, WY, great grandchildren: Karen, Dale, Kristi, Ruth, Max, Tami, Travis and Troy, 12 great great grandchildren and one great great great grandson, Braden.

Nettie was preceded in death by her parents, husband Wayne, one sister Clara, three brothers, Olaf, Louie and Carl, one half brother Donald, one granddaughter, Cheryl and a great great grandson, Trey.
