Nancy Lewis, 55, of Spearfish, SD, was born in Deadwood, SD, on March 5, 1954 to Ginny and Oliver Lewis and passed away on Sunday, October 4, 2009 at Rapid City Regional Hospital after a lengthy illness.
Nancy graduated from Lead High School in 1972. She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Belle Fourche, SD. Nancy worked for Black Hills State University for approximately 12 years as a secretary in the graphic department where she met some of her closest friends. She retired because of her illness. Nancy belonged to ABATE and participated in the Relay for Life Program. She was very involved in the Humane Society and was an animal activist. She collected elephant memorabilia, enjoyed playing games, watching animal shows, and collecting greeting cards and enjoyed her numerous close friends. Most of all she was a number one fan of Tony Stewart of NASCAR. Nancy's pets were Tiger, Chebbie, Jack Daniels and feline Ricky. Her joy in the mornings was to feed the blue jays.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the animal sanctuary at Spirit of the Hills Wildlife Sanctuary, 500 N. Tinton Road, Spearfish, SD 57783 (642-2907).
Nancy is survived by her three sisters; Sherry (Al) Gransee of Plattsmouth, NE, Diane Gardner of Spearfish, SD, and Linda (Larry) Wakefield of Thompson Falls, MT, 4 nieces and 3 nephews.
Memorial services will take place at 2:00p.m. on Friday, October 9, 2009 at the United Methodist Church in Belle Fourche (1807 7th Ave.), with Pastor Gail Arnold officiating.
