Obituary

Our beloved wife, mother, and grandmother, Myrtle Edna Osborn peacefully went to be with the Lord on Friday, March 31, 2017, at the age of 96. She passed away in the early morning at Belle Fourche Healthcare Community. Myrtle was kind and loving, she devoted her life to her family.

Myrtle was born in a farmhouse on September 17, 1920 near Platte, South Dakota to Victor and Inger Anderson. She was the youngest of seven children, four sisters and two brothers. The family lived briefly in Wanblee, SD until settling in Lead, SD when she was about seven years-old. She grew up in Lead, attending school, learning to roller skate in the streets, playing kick the can, and spending time with her siblings.

In September 1939, she attended a local dance and there she met Roy Osborn. The next night they went on their first date to a movie at the Homestake Theatre, "Andy Harvey Gets Spring Fever". On January 13, 1940 Roy and Myrtle married at the Sturgis Presbyterian Church in Sturgis, SD. Roy and Myrtle were blessed with three children, Mary, Richard, and Tom. Myrtle was a homemaker and cared for her husband, children, and grandchildren. She lived in Lead until 1995 when she moved to Spearfish, where she resided until shortly before her passing.

Myrtle was a member of the Rebekah's Lodge, liked to play solitaire, enjoyed watching the "Price is Right", old westerns, and "Days of Our Lives". She always had coffee and cake or cookies for her visitors. Her memory was amazing, even at the age of 96 she shared memories dating back to her childhood. Myrtle lived a simple life, she loved kids and her grandchildren were the light in her life.

In her final days, she was happy, smiling, and laughing. She was overjoyed at seeing her family and friends. Myrtle was at peace when she passed. She is loved more than she will ever know and will be missed dearly.

Myrtle is survived by her three children, Mary (Jim) Slaska of Spearfish, Richard Osborn of Hardin, Montana, and Tom (Jean) Osborn of Spearfish; seven grandchildren: Brian (Lorena) Osborn, Roy (Sherri) Osborn, Rodney Osborn, Charity (Lee) Schmierer, Melanie (Chanz) Prewitt, James (Laurie) Slaska, and Michelle (Jeff) Livengood; many great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Myrtle is preceded in death by her husband, Roy Osborn, mother, Inger Anderson, father, Victor Anderson, daughter-in-law, Sheila Osborn and siblings; Esther Cowell, Beda Charles, Ellen Aspen, Ruth Tousta, Horace Anderson and Walter Anderson.

Her life will be honored at 10:00am, Tuesday, April 4, 2017 at Fidler-Isburg Funeral Chapel in Spearfish. Inurnment will follow at Mountain Lawn Cemetery.
