Obituary

Monty Leroy Newman, 72, Sundance died peacefully August 12, 2012 at the Belle Fourche Health Care Center.

Monty came into this world on May 7th, 1940 in Belle Fourche as the oldest of six children born to Roy S. Maxine B. (Radtke) Newman. He attended school in Belle Fourche, St.Onge and Spearfish S.D. where he later graduated in 1960.

Monty always had a love for the mountains and Wyoming. After high school he went to work for Eaton Dude Ranch in the Big Horn Mountains of Wyoming as a wrangler. It was at this ranch where Monty fell in love with and married Jean Mills. Their union ended two years later on a friendly basis. His next venture took him to the mountains of the Black Hills where he worked for the Homestake Timber Mill for eighteen years. After a fire destroyed the timber mill, Monty took on a new job as custodian for the Crook County School in Sundance Wyoming where he lived and retired after twenty-two years. Monty often spoke fondly about the many special friends and students that he got to know while working at the school.
He was an avid lifelong fan of John Wayne. Like John Wayne, Monty was a man of principal. There was not room for any grey area. Something was either right or wrong, and he stood by these principles throughout his life.
He had a passion for animals. You would always see His dogs; Sir Isaac Windsor, Cowboy, and Buddy riding shot gun in his travels through his life

His hobbies included rodeo, and his yearly fall elk hunting trips with the McInerney clan, Paul, Gerald, Mike, Todd, Casey and Tim.

Grateful for sharing in his life are four sisters: Kay Jean (Lyle) Babb of Broadus MT, Karen (Leslie) Richards of Hadlock WA, Lynn (Lavern) Hague of Tulare SD, Sara (Mark) Clark of Lexington TN, one brother, Gary Newman of Mesa AZ, twelve nieces and nephews, 24 great nieces and nephews, one great, great nephew, and numerous cousins. Special extend family members; Gerald and Jackie McInerney of Sundance WY, who were more like a brother and sister to him as were all the McInerney familes.
Monty was preceded in death by his parents, Roy and Maxine Newman, three nephews, Dennis and Donald Richards and Calvin Babb.

At a later date, both a celebration of his life and burial will take place.
