Miriam Grace "Mim" Hoff, 66 of Spearfish went to be with her Lord June 15, 2017.
Miriam was born November 3,1950 to Hiram and Edna (Joens) Strong. She spent her early years in Lead before moving with her family to Spearfish when she was in the third grade. In 1969, she graduated from Spearfish High School. After high school Miriam pursued a degree in Special Education and Elementary Education. In 1971, while working at a German restaurant she meet Jim Hoff, the love of her life, who was also working there. They were married at Placerville Church Camp on July 15, 1972. Miriam earned her B.S. in Elementary Education from Black Hills State University in 1973. Jim and Miriam moved to Bison, SD, where she started her teaching career. The following year the two moved to Ellingson School in the Northwest District where they taught in a one room school for two years. Because of the pending arrival of their child they moved to Lead, SD where Jim had found a teaching position. Christopher was born in December of 1976. Miriam resumed her teaching career in Deadwood, where she taught Special Ed, for several years before returning to the regular classroom. Reading was very important to Miriam so she completed her Master's Degree in Reading Instruction from BHSU.
Miriam was active in many organizations including Trinity United Methodist Church, where she taught Sunday School and was past president of the UMW. She was past president of Iota chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma and also active in P.E.O. and Bid-a-Wee.
She will be missed by husband, Jim; son, Chris (Jovena); beloved grandchildren, Connor and Brynna Aurora, CO; sisters, Barbara (Stan) Howe Spearfish, Joyce (Dale) Bruce Layton, UT; sister-in-law, Kay (Marvin) Paschke Rapid City; brother-in-law, "Tyler" (Bob) Hoff NewTown, PA; many nephews and nieces, and scores of friends. Miriam is preceded in death by her parents; sister, Margaret; and brothers, Chucky, and Billy.
Visitation will be from 6-7 PM on Sunday, June 18, 2017 at Fidler-Isburg Funeral Chapel in Spearfish. Funeral services will be at 2 PM on Monday, June 19 at Trinity United Methodist Church in Lead. Burial will take place at West Lead Masonic Cemetery, a lunch will follow at the Christian Ministry Center.
A memorial has been established to benefit United Methodist Camping.
