Millard "Mitch" Dale Mitchell, 93, of Spearfish, SD, passed away Monday, April 16, 2007 at Spearfish Regional Hospital.
Visitation will be from 3:00PM to 7:00PM on Friday, April 20, 2007 at Fidler-Isburg Funeral Chapel in Spearfish.
Funeral services will be at 10:00AM, on Saturday, April 21, 2007, at Hillsview Church of the Nazarene in Spearfish, with Reverend Paul Lantz officiating, burial will follow at Oak Ridge Cemetery in Deadwood, SD.
Millard was born January 24, 1914 on a farm near Artesian, SD, to Harvey and Cora (Hamm) Mitchell. He attended school in Artesian and Plano, he farmed and sheared sheep after graduating.
Millard married Emily Baysinger on November 26, 1935 and to this union 2 children were born, Lawrence and Dorothy. He moved to Spearfish in 1945 and worked for Homestake, had a dairy farm and became a finished carpenter where he built many homes in the Spearfish area.
The Lord again blessed Millard in marriage and united him with June (Chipman) Gurwell on August 16, 1955. To this union one daughter, Christy was born and two sons from June's previous marriage, Gary & Danny, joined our family.
Millard loved to go fishing, hunting and to tell a good joke.
He was preceded in death by his parents, 4 brothers, 1 sister and his wife June. Grateful for sharing his life are his sons, Lawrence (Cathy) Mitchell of Spearfish, Gary (Gloria) Gurwell of Whitewood, and Danny (Sheryl) Gurwell of Lakewood, CA, two daughters, Dorothy (Ron) Callies of Spearfish, and Christy Hallberg of Brooklyn Park, MN. He is also survived by 27 grandchildren: Diana, Mike, Misty, Trina, Brandon, Pam, Mark, Karrie, Jim, Ann, Cindy, Dave, Michele, Shannon, Kellie, Kathie, Aaron, Adam, Gary, Danny, Miles, Leonard, Marshall, Heidi, John, Sonya, and Nathan, 52 great grandchildren, 3 great great grandchildren, along with many cousins, nieces, nephews, and special friend Veryl Sealock.
