Mike Thoresen, from Spearfish, SD, went to be with his Lord on July 18, 2025, at age 65.

He was born on April 22, 1960, in Deadwood, SD.  After graduating from Lead High School, Mike moved to California, where he attended college and worked for a computer circuit board manufacturing company.  After a few years, Mike moved back to Deadwood and worked for Anthony's, eventually transferring to Montana and then to Wyoming.  He also served as a search and rescue EMT in Deadwood.  He moved to Spearfish and worked at Walmart for 30 years.  Semi-retired, he worked part-time as a cook and handyman at Hillsview Daycare.  Interacting with the children was his joy.

In his free time growing up, Mike enjoyed visiting his grandfather's dairy farm, riding his horse, Sunny, and working at the Days of '76 Rodeo with his dad.  He participated in baseball, wrestling, scouts, and band, and was on the ski patrol at Terry Peak.

On October 3, 1998, Mike married Valerie Riebe.  They enjoyed hiking, camping, fishing at the lake, cooking, and road trips together.  They were very active in their kids' activities, attending scouting activities, band concerts and games.

Mike was active in the community, coaching Little League baseball and leading his son Zach's Cub Scouts pack 17.  Later he was the assistant leader for Boy Scouts Troop 17 in Spearfish.  He loved staying involved in his kids' activities, coaching from the sidelines while Zach wrestled and Hannah played softball. When his daughter Hannah was in dance class as a kindergartener, Mike even became the "student dancer" while Hannah was his "coach."

Mike is survived by his wife, Valerie; son, Zachary; daughter, Hannah; his mother, Jan Thoresen; sister, Kathy (Terry) Caudill; brother, Don (Tina); niece, Eryn (Jess); and niece, Cassie.  He is preceded in death by his father, Robert; grandparents; and nephew, Erik.

Memorial services will be at 10:00 AM on Saturday, July 26, 2025 at Hillsview Church of the Nazarene in Spearfish.
