Naumann
Sep 22, 1959 — May 9, 2026
Michael Jeffery Naumann, 66 of Spearfish, SD passed away peacefully on May 9, 2026, in Spearfish.
Mike was born on September 22, 1959, in Rapid City, South Dakota, to William “Buck” and Nannette “Nan” Naumann. He graduated from Stevens High School in Rapid City and later attended Brown Institute in Minneapolis, where he earned his broadcast certificate.
In 1980, Mike began his radio career at rock station Y95 in Rockford, Illinois, where he adopted the on-air name “Jeff Michaels.” He later returned to the Black Hills and joined KSQY, becoming a familiar voice and part of the station’s programming leadership throughout most of the 1980s. Afterward, Mike worked for Pope & Talbot for many years before stepping away due to health issues.
He met his soulmate, Julie Colbert, and they were married in April 1985. Their enduring love carried them through life’s greatest joys and challenges as they raised two amazing daughters, Nicolle and Natasha.
Mike had a deep passion for rock and roll and was known for his extensive knowledge and love of music, reflected in a collection of more than 4,000 albums. He also enjoyed riding his motorcycle through the Black Hills with Julie and friends and was a devoted fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers, Pirates, and Penguins.
Later in life, Mike faced significant health challenges with strength and resilience. He spent his final years at Spearfish Canyon Healthcare, where he was cared for with compassion and dignity.
He is survived by his loving wife, Julie; daughter Nicolle Keylon (Stephen); grandchildren Delilah and Maddox Burr; and his brother, Nick (Joe).
He was preceded in death by his parents and his daughter, Natasha.
The family extends a heartfelt thank you to the staff at Spearfish Canyon Healthcare for their compassionate care and kindness.
His voice is free again, carried on the music he loved and the memories that will never fade.
