Mike Green, 65, Lead, SD died Saturday the 5th of October 2013.
He was born in Deadwood, SD on December 21st 1947. He was the second of three sons born to Genevieve and Edward Green. He was preceded in death by his mother, father, older brother Jim Green and step-father Joel Waterland. He is survived by his younger brother, Dan Green and his wife Linda of Spearfish, SD and a special friend Joyce Muir of Lead.
As a youngster he delivered newspapers and worked at Finola's men's store. He graduated from Lead High School in 1966. Later he worked summers and vacations as a hoist operator for Homestake Mine in Lead, while attending South Dakota School of Mines, where he earned two engineering degrees in mechanical and mine engineering. He was a project engineer for many major energy plants and other projects in the Western United States and Hawaii.
He enjoyed working on his collection of hot rods, Dodge power wagons, and his fully operational railroad that he had built on his land. He often entertained friends on his train and would take families with children by train out to cut Christmas trees on his land. He could often be seen with Jasper the St. Bernard, his favorite pet and friend. He served on community projects including being a board member for the mining museum. He also enjoyed being a member of the Spearfish Model T club and the Rapid City Counts of the Cobblestones Car Club. Mike will be sorely missed by his many friends for his excellent memory of past and present Lead-Deadwood residents, his sense of humor, and willingness to help whenever needed. He wished for a scholarship in his name for the local Lead-Deadwood high school.
Funeral Services for Mike will be held at 1:30 PM on Friday, October 18, 2013 at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Lead, with visitation one hour prior to services.
Arrangements are under the care of Lead-Deadwood Memorial Chapel of Lead.
