Michael (Mike) Lee Edwards, 59, of Pine Haven, WY passed away on Wednesday, March 3, 2010 at his home with his companion Gail Mavity by his side. Mike had cancer for 17 months and fought a hard battle, but in the end he lost that battle to pneumonia.
Mike was born July 16, 1950 to Robert Edwards and Gloria Connor of West Covina, CA. He worked in the sign business from high-rise casinos to McDonalds, and everything in between for nearly 20 years. In 1980 he moved to Parker, AZ and invested in a couple of commercial properties. A life long dream was fulfilled in 1992 when be became a Sheriff Deputy of La Paz county, AZ and served for 10 years. Mike was also a Search and Rescue Incident Commander, a certified CPR Instructor and was awarded a Lifesaving Award for the Wenden, AZ flood on October 22, 2000. He loved to ride his Harley-Davison motorcycle going to rallies, poker and puppy runs, Toys for Tots, and just for the simple pleasure of it. In 2000, he met the love of his life, Gail Mavity. They moved to Moorcroft, WY in 2003 after fulfilling another dream of going to the Sturgis Rally for the Harley-Davidson 100th birthday and to see Mt. Rushmore.
Mike is survived by his companion of nine years, Gail Mavity, of Moorcroft, sister Cindy Percy of Tennessee, Aunt Patty and Uncle Frank Bates of Fountain Valley, CA, and four brothers in the Los Angeles, CA area.
A Memorial has been established to benefit Treasured Memories Hospice in Moorcroft and may be sent to P.O. Box 765, Moorcroft, WY 82721. No services are planned at his request and his ashes will be taken back to Matfield Green, Kansas for burial at a later date.
