Obituary

Mervin "Merv" Jerome Nehmer passed away on March 26, 2020, at the age of 63.

Merv was born on November 11, 1956 in Beaver Dam, WI, son of the late Robert and June (Olson) Nehmer. He is survived by his step-mother Beverly, his siblings Jackie Bredlau (Paul), Tina Durfee (Richard), Linda Green, Norbert, Paul, Molly Ludka (Raymond), Kenneth, and Carrie Nehmer-Pemberton (Michael), his children Shonna Oie (Kenneth Jr), Jeffrey (Sharlee), Jeremy (Wendi), Denise Reed (Anthony), and Amanda Nehmer, and his grandchildren Cameron, Victoria, Ella, and Olivia Oie. He was preceded in death by his siblings Joan Dolan, Bob, Pete, Duane, and David.

Merv worked the later part of his life as a contractor, building homes and other buildings. However, he worked in many different jobs over the years, doing whatever needed to be done to provide for his family. He knew the value of both hard work and humor, and he was never short of stories, jokes, and wit. Those who met Merv knew that he was quick to assign nicknames, such as "Chicken-Wing", "Victim of Circus Pants", "Blanche", and "Butterman" to name a few – he was often the life of the party. He lived life as fully as he could and always had an abundance of love for his family and friends. He loved and appreciated nature in a way that not everyone takes the time for. He especially enjoyed fishing, hunting, and taking a nice long walk – whether at the lake or hitch-hiking across a few states to visit family. He spent time playing football and basketball in the yard with his kids, fixing and building things around the house, watching The Green Bay Packers and Milwaukee Brewers play on TV, gardening, and playing cards and enjoying time with good friends.

The family will have a Celebration of Life for Merv at a time when everyone is better able to come together. Until then, please have a drink and make a toast to his life.

If you wish, flowers, donations, and condolences may be sent to The Nehmer Family at 677 Yukon Way Whitewood, SD, 57793-3100.
