Melvin Arthur Williams, 92, of Kansas City, KS, formerly of Lead, SD, passed away while staying with his daughter Sally on Sunday, November 6, 2016.
Melvin was born on December 8, 1923 to Arthur Williams and Pearl (Pelts) Palo. He grew up in Lead, SD and graduated from Lead High School in 1942. Mel was inducted into the Army Air Corp and flew 26 missions against the Japanese as a tail gunner on a B-25. He returned to Lead just before Christmas in 1945. His Christmas gift was meeting Doreen (Curnow) Williams, his wife of 56 years.
Mel was a teacher and coach for 34 years in Nebraska and Kansas. He received his bachelor's degree from Nebraska University and his Masters from the University of Kansas. Mel loved sports and the great teammates he met over the years.
Melvin and Doreen were blessed with these other precious gifts. Two sons; Bill, Kansas City, Kansas and Mark of Lead, SD. Four daughters; Sally (Jim) Doss, Lenexa Kansas, Terri (Jeff) Buckingham, Gardner Kansas, Jackie Stanfield (deceased), husband David, and Constance (stillborn). They were also blessed with 10 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
Memorial Services will be held at Christ The King Episcopal Church of Lead, SD on June 19th at 10:00 AM. Memorials may be sent to the Lords Cupboard in Lead, SD.
