Melvin L. Merritt, 74, Lead, SD died Wednesday, January 23, 2013 at his home.


Melvin was born August 2, 1938 at Deadwood, SD to Ernest and Nellie (Clingman) Merritt.
Melvin was a longtime carpenter and cabinet maker in the Lead-Deadwood area. He served in the U.S. Navy during the late 1950's.

Survivors include his brothers; Vernon Merritt, Spearfish, Herb (Marcella) Haltiner, Lead, Roy (Sylvia) Haltiner, Grand Junction, CO, Norman (Pris) Haltiner, Dallas, TX, Donald "Duck" Haltiner, Central City, sister-in-laws; Janet Mason, Deadwood, Noreen Merritt, Fargo, ND and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers; Howard Mason and Glenn Merritt.

Graveside Services for Melvin will be held at 11:00 A.M, Wednesday, July 24, 2013 at Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis. In lieu of flowers a memorial has been established to Twin Cities Animal Shelter.
