Obituary

Melvin Lee Douglas, 71, of Upton, WY died September 6, 2009, at home with his wife by his side.
Mel was born on May 3, 1938, on a ranch south of Upton, Wyoming to Paul and Marie Douglas. He grew up in Upton with two siblings, Mary and George. During his youth he enjoyed working on the family ranch. He graduated from Upton High School in 1956 and later served in the United States Army Reserve.
Mel met his soul mate, Jan, in August 1958 and they were married on January 27, 1959. Together they raised their family first in Belle Fourche, SD and then later settled down in Upton, WY. Mel worked in the oil fields as a drilling superintendent for much of his career and later became an independent contractor. After he "retired" he enjoyed substitute teaching.
Mel, an infinite joker, always lit a room with his smile. With great love he mastered gardening, golfing, cooking, fishing and hunting, playing poker with his friends, and vacationing with his wife and family.
He is survived by his mother, Marie, his wife Jan, his sons, Tony, Paul, and Dallas, his daughter, Ginger, daughters-in-law, Debbie and Debbie, his grandkids, Penney, Derick, Crystal, Darnell, Dalton, Anna, Abbey, Craig, Chuck, and Kim, and 17 great grandchildren.
Services will be held on Thursday September 10th at 4pm at Boal Auditorium at the Upton Elementary with Pastor Joe Spencer officiating.
A memorial in Mel's name has been arranged for the Upton Golf Association and Sharon's Home Health, condolences may be sent to P.O. Box 511, Upton, WY 82730
