Matthew Daniel Wagner, 36, Spearfish, SD, passed away on March 3, 2017 at Rapid City Regional Hospital following a short illness.

Matthew was born January 11, 1981 in Wheatridge, CO to Daniel R. Wagner and Cindy (Collins) Wagner. He spent the first 12 years of his life in Wheatridge. He loved Colorado and had many friends there. He and his mother moved to Spearfish several years after his father passed away. Matt graduated from Spearfish High School in 1999 and moved back to Colorado to continue education in his life long passion of art. He attended the Colorado Institute of Art and majored in animation but loved all forms of art. From the time he was very young he was a talented artist.

Matthew returned to Spearfish in 2009 and was blessed with the birth of his daughter Zoe Ann. During this time Matt was employed at Safeway and Black Hills State University.

He also drew caricatures at the Festival in the Park in Spearfish and did many portraits of beloved pets for people.

Matt's kindness and gentleness will be missed by all who knew him. His free spirit and love of nature and the arts shines on through his beautiful daughter Zoe who loved him very much.

He is survived by his daughter Zoe Ann Wagner; his mother Cindy (Collins) Wagner; his paternal grandmother Kay Wagner; his very special friend Liza Peneaux. Also surviving him are many aunts, uncles and cousins. He was preceded in death by his father Daniel Wagner; his paternal grandfather Raymond Wagner; his maternal grandparents, Jefferson "Duke" Collins and Angela (Shryock) Collins and his beloved cousin, Quintin Collins.

Visitation will be from 5pm to 7pm, Wednesday, March 8, 2017 at Fidler-Isburg Funeral Chapel in Spearfish. Mass of Christian Burial will be at noon on Thursday, March 9, 2017 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Spearfish.
